What is LED technology?
Relatively low energy means for emitting light, the LEDs (LED) technology is used in many electronic devices that are often used in the average home. The LED differs from the normal bulb seen in most homes because it uses an electrified semiconductor material to produce light instead of an electrified filament. An almost omnipresent of lighting, LED technology is used in computers, televisions, remote controls and flashlights, as well as in signs, traffic lights and architectural and stage lighting.
In an LED lamp, electrified energy causes the semiconductor inside the LED to emit light. Used to produce blue or white light, nitride is one of the most common semiconductors that are applied in LED modules. The LED technology is used in newer TVs, where it is a replacement for cathode ray lighting (CRT) that was previously common. In LED televisions, clusters of LEDs are decorated in panels that are triggered to illuminate and the color image on the screen. Televisions that come on with LED technology are more energy efficient, narrower in profile, lighter and more environmentally friendly in storage than the old CRTs, but they are also more expensive.
Although the use of LED technology for easy lighting is more expensive to install than standard lamp lighting, the LED technology offers a number of advantages. Because of the small metal thread known as the filament is prone to heat weakening and breakage, LED lamps are more durable and long-lasting than standard incandescent lamps. They are less likely to break than fluorescent lamps and they consume much less energy than standard lamps or fluorescent lamps.
LEDs can be designed to have a color, or they can be designed to have multiple light colors available within a diode. The ability to change color by using multi-colored LEDs drives many high-tech LED displays such as those used for large LEDs. The LED screen at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of the largest true LED screens in the world. Although Las Vegas is known for its spotted lights and impressive LED signs, the Viva Vision screen is considerably larger than any other LED panel in the city, which spans about five football pitches long and is powered by about 12 million LED diode modules.
In addition to its applications in business and architectural design, LED technology can also be used for fun and entertainment. Numerous cheap novelty LED objects to provide a number of interesting lighting for party favors. LED lights drive many exciting toys, including glowing ice cubes, flashing jewelry, multicolored LED hair clips and scintillating belt buckles. Decorations that are lit by LEDs are often used to give a high-tech futuristic look to an event or celebration.
